The Wedderburn Korong Vale RSL is proud to announce the successful completion of its “Room Rennos” project, made possible by a grant from the Victorian Government’s Veterans’ Capital Works Program. The funding has transformed the local sub-branch into a modern, welcoming hub, ensuring that veterans and community members have a high-quality space to gather, connect, and access support services.
The Victorian Government’s Veterans’ Capital Works Program is designed to help veterans’ organisations maintain, upgrade, and improve facilities. For the Wedderburn Korong Vale RSL, this meant addressing long-standing maintenance issues that were affecting the amenity of the building. The project involved a comprehensive repainting of internal walls, repair cracks and refresh the aesthetic, along with the replacement of old, worn carpeting that had become a safety concern.
The impact of these renovations cannot be overstated as they allow the sub-branch to maintain the facilities for the benefit of veterans and the community both now and for future generations. Apart from the room renovations, other upgrades have been made to the outdoor area with the installation of a sprinkler system to maintain the grounds.
The success of the project is captured in a recent photograph taken during a typical Friday night gathering. The image shows the RSL rooms with the fresh, neutral tones of the new paintwork and the plush new carpet providing a stark contrast to the previous dated yellow walls. The level of local patronage by veterans and local residents has increased considerably in recent years with membership now at around 70 veterans, affiliates and social members. Of course, new members are always welcome.
"It’s like a different building," noted one local who has been a regular attendee. "The Friday nights have always been about camaraderie, but now the environment actually matches that spirit. It feels welcoming, safe, and modern. It’s a place where you want to stick around and catch up with people."
The Wedderburn Korong Vale RSL invites all community members to visit the renovated facility and see the improvements firsthand. The organisation remains committed to serving the local veteran community and providing a space for social connection and support.
